LAHORE Pakisttan: Two senior police officers and sixteen others were killed as an explosion rocked Lahore city’s Mall Road on Monday
According to details, DIG Traffic Captain Mubeen and SSP Operations Zahid Gondal along with sixteen other people lost their lives in the blast which also injured at least more than 70 people.
Captain Mubeen was holding talks with Punjab Pharmacists Association to end the association’s sit-in at the Mall Road when the blast occurred leaving him dead and at least 40 others severely injured. Police and rescue agencies soon reached the spot and started the rescue operation. A number of injured are in critical condition and are being moved to nearby hospitals. Nine of the injured are said to be in critical condition. Eight dead bodies and 19 of the injured victims were moved to Ganga Ram Hospital while two bodies and 18 injured victims were sent to Mayo Hospital.
The incident occurred as hundreds of chemists protested a new law near the Punjab provincial assembly building, Rana Sanaullah, the provincial law minister said. “We fear many injured,” he added.
Eye witnesses say the blast occurred when a man suddenly came close to a media organization’s DSNG van and exploded. The DSNG van was completely destroyed in the deadly blast.
