On Friday at midnight EST, Nicki Minaj delighted her fans around the world by dropping not one, not two, but three new tracks online at the same time.
For her new songs”No Frauds,,,,,Changed It” and “Regret in your Tears” Nicki Minaj looked for some help from her closest friends Lil Wayne and Drake, who also just happen to be the biggest names in the hip-hop world as well. The two male rappers are featured on “No Frauds,” while just Wayne puts a verse on “Changed It” and Nicki Minaj stands by herself on “Regret In Your Tears.” All three new cuts fit squarely under the hip-hop genre label, which isn’t always a guarantee with Nicki Minaj, who has found success in rap, R&B, pop and even dance, with the latter two styles having helped her make it to the upper reaches of the charts several times.
All three songs, each of which appears to be a proper single, have covers that look similar, which can be taken as a sign. When the artwork accompanying more than one just-released song matches and it doesn’t look like anything that has come before, that’s a hint that a new era has begun, and that’s fantastic news for Nicki Minaj’s “Barbz,” who are her most adoring fans.
Another full-length album has been expected from Nicki Minaj for some time, and mid-2017 seems to be the perfect time for her to launch a new campaign, as the schedule doesn’t appear to be too full of headline names (at least not yet). If she announces the release date of an album relatively soon and kicks off this new stage of her musical career, she could all but ensure another No. 1 album and perhaps some serious hits, as top 40 radio will be open to new tunes from one of the biggest and most successful artists out there.
While all three songs have been named “singles” as opposed to one-off tracks, only time will tell if all of them receive the “single treatment.” In a statement announcing the trio of tracks,Nicki Minaj’s record label Republic Records didn’t mention any videos or if they will be serviced to radio (or if an album is coming anytime soon for the record), but whenever Nicki Minaj releases a track, it performs well, regardless of whether or not serious money and promotional might is put behind it, or in this case, them.
Once these three songs have had a full week in which to rack up sales and what is sure to be an impressive number of streams across platforms, it’s highly likely that all of them will appear on the Hot 100. If, or, when, that happens, Nicki Minaj will take her place as the woman with the most appearances on the all-genre singles tally. This past week,The rapper matched soul legend aretha Franklin . when it comes to female artists that have placed the greatest number of tracks on the ranking, but the two women were never going to be tied for long.Nicki Minaj hits the Hot 100 with a new song frequently, and it was only a matter of time before she passed the beloved singer, though it is surprising to see her take the title this quickly.
