All of the victims were on the aircraft, which had five people on board.

Previously, Fire Chief Michael Moore had said that four people had died but after further investigation, he announced later in a news conference that the death toll was now three.

Moore said it was thought that those on the plane were a family, two adults and three teenagers, who had been in the area for a cheerleading competition at Disneyland.

The plane had just taken off from Riverside airport, around 100km east of Los Angeles, and was heading to San Jose, when it crashed. local resident George Charles Ashley told”It was loud, shook the house like an earthquake,” the 58-year-old added. “It was a big fireball.”

The National Transportation Safety Board will continue its investigation on Tuesday.                                                                                                                                           Four people have died after a plane crashed into homes in California.
